Grail The Approach Pinot Noir 2023
Philosophy
Named after the aeronautical term, The Approach Pinot Noir is one of one. Unconstrained by geography. Guided by the senses. Limited in production and made only in exceptional vintages. A blend that balances experience with curiosity and pushes our craft.
Winemaking
This wine was harvested between September 25 and October 6 with the brix ranging between 24.6-25.8. Clones included 23, 667, Calera, Martini and 828. After a five-day cold soak and two weeks of fermentation, the wine aged for fifteen months in 60% new French oak before bottling. The coopers included Boutes and Cavin.
Dan’s Notes
The nose has a smoked herbed essence of sage and rosemary. The palate enters with alluring dried rose petal flavors. The mid-palate offers a mysterious savory note that will reveal riper flavors with time in the cellar. Look for fig and black cherry as your fruit nuances. A sexy, complex, and savory play on these vineyards playing together.
